Ja, der Viewer von Autodesk ist ein kostenfreies Online-Tool, das sowohl für private als auch für kommerzielle Zwecke genutzt werden kann. Direkt über den Browser lassen sich verschiedene 2D- und 3D-Dateiformate (wie DWG, DXF, STEP und STL) anzeigen, teilen und prüfen. Für die Nutzung ist ein kostenloses Autodesk-Konto erforderlich.

Was ist STEP?

STEP (Dateiendung .stp oder .step) ist ein Standard-Dateiformat für das Speichern und den Austausch von 3D-Modellen. Es ermöglicht das Speichern vollständiger Geometrien und wird vor allem in der industriellen Fertigung, im 3D-Druck und in der Qualitätssicherung eingesetzt.

Die Abkürzung STEP / STP steht dabei für „Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data“, zu deutsch „Standard für den Austausch von Produktdaten“.

Gibt es einen Unterschied zwischen STEP und STP?

Kurz gesagt: Nein. Die Dateikürzel STEP und STP beziehen sich auf dasselbe Dateiformat auf Basis der Norm ISO 10303. Sowohl .step als auch .stp stehen für „Standard for the Exchange of Product model data“ und sind technisch gleichwertig.

Zwar bevorzugen manche CAD-Programme eine der beiden Varianten, doch in der Praxis sind die Dateiformate austauschbar. Im Arbeitsalltag hat sich die kürzere Form .stp weitgehend als Standard durchgesetzt.
